MTS will complete the modernization of the main nodes of its own transport telecom network in Moscow and the region by the end of 2025: the bandwidth of the Internet gateway will double, and the aggregation segments and the core of the transport network will double, the company said.

As a result, the speed of Internet access will increase, and the quality of communication for mobile and fixed-line subscribers in the metropolitan area will improve.

"Last year, we set about building the foundations of our infrastructure — expanding the Internet gateway, updating the core and nodes of the transport aggregation. The completion of this large—scale and responsible project will create a powerful foundation for us for many years to come, both in terms of improving the quality of digital services for a growing number of customers, and in terms of preparing our infrastructure for the upcoming transition to the 5G standard, when data transmission and consumption will multiply," said Vladislav Medvedev, Technical Director of the MTS Moscow region.

The modernization of the core and aggregation segments of the transport network in the metropolitan region is proceeding in parallel with the continuous expansion of the network of fiber-optic communication lines (fiber-optic communication lines). Last year, MTS laid 512 km of overhead line (5% more than in 2023). In 2025, the company plans to lay another 526 km.

The presence of extensive high-speed communication lines makes it possible to abandon less productive radio relay lines when upgrading the mobile network, since connecting base stations to optics increases the speed of mobile Internet for more subscribers, the company explained. In 2024, the number of base stations connected to the central heating system in Moscow increased to 46% (from 44.5% a year earlier).
