VTB has launched biometric confirmation of transactions to protect against fraudsters. The tool is available to users of the bank's Android mobile application who have submitted biometrics through bank branches and the Public Services application, the VTB press service said.

It is noted that with the help of facial recognition from photos, customers can confirm transfers, payments, issuance of plastic cards, stickers and other operations. It will soon be possible to make this feature mandatory for a number of operations, which will eliminate unauthorized actions in your personal account, VTB said.

"The smart anti—fraud platform itself offers the client such a way to confirm a specific operation, if necessary, for example, if the user makes a large transfer," the bank said.

More than 1.9 million customers have gained access to the new tool since the end of February.

According to Nikita Chugunov, head of the digital business department and Senior vice president of VTB, "biometric confirmation of transactions has already proven to be a reliable and convenient tool: no deep-fake or customer photo will allow fraudsters to deceive the system." "In April, we plan to launch this functionality in the web version of VTB Online, as well as expand it to all operations where additional verification of the client's identity is required. In the future, biometrics will allow not only to confirm payments and transfers, but also to log into VTB Online, receive loans and perform card transactions," added Chugunov.
