A special military operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass has been conducted by Russia since February 24, 2022. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in the Belgorod direction, the North group of troops struck three brigades and two regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the areas of the settlements of Maryino, Petrushevka and Pogrody in the Sumy region.

In this area, the Ukrainian army lost more than 70 soldiers, two infantry fighting vehicles, 11 armored combat vehicles, three tanks, seven vehicles, three engineering vehicles and four artillery pieces.

In addition, the Southern Group of Troops defeated nine brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of the settlements of Seversk, Verkhnekamenskoye, Poltavka, Zelenoe Pole, Dzerzhinsk, Novomarkovo, Kramatorsk, Chasov Yar and Ivanopolye. The Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 270 soldiers, a tank, a field artillery piece and 10 vehicles there.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 601 anti-aircraft missile systems, 658 aircraft, 1529 multiple rocket launcher combat vehicles, 47353 unmanned aerial vehicles, 601 anti-aircraft missile systems, 22344 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 283 helicopters, 22700 field artillery and mortars, 33050 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed.
