Tariffs of some regional waste management operators, which overestimated their costs by 5 billion rubles, were reduced by a third. This was announced on March 19 at a meeting of the board of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation by Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov.

"Under our supervision, 26 waste management facilities with a capacity of over 3 million tons per year have been put into operation. Territorial schemes have been adjusted in 24 regions, and in some cases, tariffs of regional operators have been reduced by a third, having overestimated their costs by 5 billion rubles," he said.

Krasnov added that the signals about garbage collapses continue to arrive. According to him, the complaints are mainly related to the late removal of containers, the inability to collect bulky waste, overcrowding and lack of landfills.

On March 10, Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, said that legislation in the field of municipal solid waste management (MSW) should be flexible and instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to accelerate the preparation of the most demanded changes. It was noted that a list of priority regulatory legal acts has already been formed, which must be adopted by the end of 2025.

These are 14 initiatives that relate to the work of regional operators, the maintenance of container sites and the creation of infrastructure for waste management.
