The detained mayor of Istanbul will remain in custody for four days.


The detained opposition mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, will remain in police custody for four days, CNN Turk reported on March 19, citing sources.
"Ekrem Imamoglu and those who were detained with him will remain in police custody for four days," a media news release said.
According to the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office, the opposition mayor was detained in the case of an organization involved in corruption, bribery and bribery. Imamoglu himself stated that he "does not intend to give up" under pressure from the authorities.
Law enforcement agencies had issued a warrant for Imamoglu's detention earlier that day. According to the Sabah newspaper, about 100 arrest warrants were issued in total. The media notes that an anti-corruption operation has been launched against the Istanbul City Hall. It concerns the holding of city tenders, as well as clarifying the details of the interaction of opposition officials with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party. It is also reported that the houses of Imamoglu and his press adviser Murat Ongun are being searched.
