Szijjarto called the talks between Putin and Trump a hope for the approaching peace
Telephone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump have brought hope for peace closer. This was announced on March 19 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"Last night was very promising, as the talks between the presidents of the United States and Russia brought hope for peace even closer. Over the past three years, we have never been so close to peace, and we hope that these peace efforts will not be undermined from Brussels," he said.
He noted that Hungary and Vietnam adhere to the position of peace and declare this in international organizations. According to him, the parties agreed that only peaceful negotiations will help achieve a settlement in Ukraine. Budapest and Hanoi expressed confidence that the US-Russian contacts that have begun will lead to peace at the negotiating table.
While on a working trip to Hanoi, Szijjarto also noted that the Hungarian side would play an important role in the development of Vietnam's nuclear industry.
The telephone conversation between the President of the Russian Federation and the American leader Donald Trump took place the day before. During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and discussed a wide range of areas in which the United States and Russia could cooperate.
British analyst Alexander Merkouris noted that only Russia and the United States can end the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, it is Moscow and Washington that will be the key participants in the settlement negotiations.
