In 2024, the number of crimes in the field of information and communication technologies increased by 13%, the proportion reached 40%, and less than a quarter (23%) were solved. This was announced on March 19 at a meeting of the board of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation by Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov.

According to him, the damage from remote theft amounted to almost 200 billion rubles, of which only a small part has been reimbursed.

"As a result of the actions of fraudsters, citizens are sometimes left without means of livelihood," Krasnov added.

The Prosecutor General stressed that it is necessary to take measures to invalidate loan agreements concluded under the influence of deception.

He recalled that at the end of February he signed a new instruction on additional measures to combat remote theft, and said that it was necessary to ensure its strict implementation.

Earlier, on March 12, it was reported that in 2024, Russians most often encountered fraudulent calls allegedly on behalf of bank security services. This was stated by 22.4% of respondents, according to the results of a survey conducted by RED Security. In addition, the attackers pretended to be representatives of telecom operators (21.7%) and law enforcement agencies (13.8%).
