A section of the highway near Lake Arey will be repaired in Transbaikalia.

A 13 km section of the Baikal federal highway R-258 will be overhauled in the Trans-Baikal Territory. The work will take place on the segment from 873rd to 886th km, next to the tourist destination - Lake Arey, the press service of the regional department reported on Wednesday, March 19.

The decision to repair was made after a thorough assessment of the road's transport condition based on the results of an annual diagnostic. The authorities also took into account numerous complaints from drivers about poor coverage.

The contractor will have to completely restore the roadway, eliminate cracks, potholes and deep patches caused by high humidity. There are plans to replace the barrier fence, upgrade worn-out gutter elements and several bus stops, install new road signs and signal poles.

The state contract for repairs has already been concluded, writes ChitaMedia news agency. The work is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2026. At the same time, similar work will take place on another section of the Baikal highway between km 829 and km 835 near the village of Khilogoson.

Earlier in March, it was reported that the preparation of federal highways for the spring flood had begun in Transbaikalia. Specialists check the condition of roads and bridges.
