The dialogue between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump during the telephone conversation was constructive, but the United States will have to deal with Europe, which is trying to prolong the conflict in Ukraine. On March 19, political scientist, retired Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen, told Izvestia about this.

"The United States will have to deal with the Europeans, who seem to be trying to further provoke the situation and prolong it. In fact, they are actively advocating to delay it at least until 2030," Rasmussen stressed.

According to him, after Washington and Moscow reach an agreement, the Europeans will "join the settlement."

"I think it was a positive dialogue. I think it was a positive step forward. We have reached a partial ceasefire agreement, and I think we have a clear understanding on various issues," the political scientist said.

He noted that there is a long way to go to resolve the conflict. Rasmussen also called the talks between the United States and Russia in Saudi Arabia important, as it was the first face-to-face meeting. However, the politician does not think that soon there will be talks about the advent of peace.

"I think this is not a big step, but a gradual and positive step forward," Rasmussen summed up.

On March 18, Stephen Witkoff, the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, called Putin and Trump great leaders who united for the good of humanity on Fox News.

The telephone conversation between the leaders of the United States and Russia ended on March 19. During the talks, Putin and Trump discussed the situation in Ukraine, as well as a wide range of areas in which the countries could establish cooperation.
