Employees of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg, together with the regional police, stopped the activities of the drug laboratory. This was announced on March 19 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

According to preliminary data, two residents of the Smolensk region rented a house in one of the settlements of the Leningrad region, where they equipped a laboratory for the production of prohibited substances and hired a local resident.

"As a result of the operational search activities, the suspects were detained. 23 packages with a white substance with a total weight of more than 28 kg, canisters with chemical reagents and precursors, laboratory equipment and other items of evidentiary value were found in the rented house," the Telegram channel said.

After the examination, the experts determined that the packages contained 1.5 kg of methadone.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Article 30 of the Criminal Code ("Preparation for a crime and attempted crime") and Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues").

The detainees were taken into custody, and their assistant was given a measure of procedural coercion in the form of an obligation to appear.

Earlier, on March 15, the Russian Interior Ministry detained 41 people in a case involving the sale of drugs worth 10 billion rubles. According to Volk, the attackers sold synthetic drugs via the Internet in a contactless way in several regions of Russia.
