US President Donald Trump and Russian Leader Vladimir Putin exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine during telephone talks on Tuesday, March 18.

The presidents agreed to establish expert groups of the Russian Federation and the United States to resolve the conflict bilaterally. In addition, the two leaders expressed mutual interest in normalizing relations between Moscow and Washington.

"Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to Donald Trump for his desire to contribute to the achievement of the noble goal of ending hostilities and human losses," the Kremlin said in a statement.

At the same time, Putin noted the serious risks associated with the inability of the Kiev authorities. The Head of State also drew the attention of the US President to the barbaric crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the civilian population of the Kursk region.

The previous conversation between the leaders took place on February 12. As Peskov said at the time, the leaders of the two countries discussed many topics, including the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Trump, in turn, shared that he agrees with Putin that Washington and Moscow will be able to greatly benefit from working together.

On March 16, the American leader's special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff, said that great progress had been made in discussing the Ukrainian conflict at a meeting with Putin in Moscow.
