- Kelin pointed to the emergence of common sense in US rhetoric with the advent of Trump

The resumption of high-level contacts between Moscow and Washington was made possible by the victory of common sense with the arrival of US President Donald Trump. This was announced on March 18 by Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin.
"Common sense has led Americans to talk to Russia now. Unfortunately, I don't see this common sense among most European leaders, with the exception of one or two people," the diplomat said on Channel 4 television.
According to him, most European leaders do not deal with the real internal problems of their countries, but discuss international politics and try to impress the public with their gestures.
Kelin also clarified that in the future, the United States may ease restrictions against Russia, which harm American companies on Russian territory. At the same time, he added that if the United States intends to conduct business in Russia, then they should abandon anti-Russian sanctions.
Earlier in the day, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), said that Moscow was recording progress in bilateral relations with the United States. She added that Russia sees Washington's desire to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
On March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation. During the talks, the parties exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine, and also discussed a wide range of areas in which the United States and Russia could establish cooperation.
