- The media reported on the likely refusal of the United States from the command of NATO forces in Europe

The administration of US President Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of relinquishing command of NATO forces in Europe. This was reported on Wednesday, March 19, by the American television channel NBC News, citing sources.
"For almost 75 years, it has been an exclusively American responsibility to have a four-star U.S. general who has led all NATO military operations in Europe. <...> But the Trump administration <...> is considering changing the situation," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, the Pentagon is considering a plan to abandon the role of the Supreme Commander of NATO's combined armed forces in Europe.
In addition, according to the TV channel, this is only part of a large-scale reorganization of the United States combat commands.
NBC News reported on March 6 that Trump is considering changing the format of U.S. participation in NATO. It was noted that this would mean a significant departure from the basic principle of the alliance. Later, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Washington would not withdraw from the military bloc.
In January, Trump stated that he was not sure whether to continue sponsoring NATO, since the United States protects the members of the bloc, and in return does not receive assistance. He noted that he would seek to ensure that the states of the North Atlantic Alliance increased defense spending to 5% of GDP.
