HSE expert commented on the conversation between Putin and Trump

While the Russian Federation and the United States are searching for solutions to the Ukrainian case, they do not forget about the importance of reanimating US-Russian relations, Tigran Meloyan, an analyst at the HSE Center for Mediterranean Studies, told Izvestia.
"It is significant that the two processes run in parallel and complement each other. There are enough examples of this. These include Russia's resumption of supplies of low-enriched uranium to the United States, Washington's refusal to impose anti-Russian sanctions on the anniversary of its founding, the Americans' vote at the United Nations against a resolution on Ukraine condemning Russia, and possible US-Russian cooperation in areas such as energy, rare earth mining, and even flights to Mars. It seems that Moscow is guided by a new logic — to make economic relations with the United States so profitable that breaking them would be too expensive for Washington, while for the latter, the very process of pulling Moscow away from Beijing is important," Tigran Meloyan noted.
According to the expert, people in Europe and Ukraine were particularly awaiting the outcome of today's conversation.
"They watched with attention and concern how their fate was determined by others. Any outcome of the negotiations, both positive and negative for anyone, affects the entire security system on the continent, and this is indisputable. It is another matter whether Paris, London, Kiev and others will be able to agree on what the leaders of the Russian Federation and the United States have managed to agree on," he said.
