German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pointed out the importance of the agreements reached between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. He made the corresponding statement on March 18 at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, which was broadcast on the Phoenix YouTube channel.

"The just-announced cessation of strikes on energy infrastructure may be the first important step towards [ending the conflict]. The same applies to the beginning of technical negotiations on a truce at sea," he said.

According to the politician, the next stage in the development of the bilateral dialogue should be a complete ceasefire. It should happen "as soon as possible," Scholz stressed.

On March 18, the Kremlin's press service announced the agreement on mutual cessation of strikes on energy facilities following a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump. The previous conversation between the leaders took place on February 12. According to Peskov at the time, the leaders of the two countries discussed many topics, including the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
