On March 18, Alexey Morozov, President of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), announced that the league was ready to organize matches with players of the National Hockey League (NHL).

"We have always been committed to peace, and we are open to sports dialogue between the leagues and constructive relations. And in accordance with the instructions of our president, we will be ready to organize all necessary events," he told TASS.

During a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump, the head of the White House positively assessed the idea of the Russian leader to hold matches between the players of the two leagues.

On March 17, the Lokomotiv club won the KHL regular season for the first time. Thus, the Yaroslavl club scored 98 points in 66 matches and for the first time became the winner of the regular season and the winner of the Continental Cup. In the next match on March 19, Lokomotiv will play CSKA.
