The most dangerous motorcycle brands in Russia have become known

Motorcycles of the Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki brands turned out to be the most emergency on Russian roads. This is reported in the results of a joint study of the VSK Insurance House and Avtodom Group of Companies, timed to coincide with the start of the motorcycle season, which was reviewed by Izvestia on March 18.

According to the insurance company, Yamaha accounts for 22% of motorcycle accidents. This is followed by Honda (18%), Kawasaki (16%), Suzuki, Ducati and BMW (7% each). In general, the number of road accidents caused by motorcyclists has increased 1.8 times over the year. The Krasnodar Territory became the leading region in the number of motorcycle accidents - 19%. The anti-rating also includes Novosibirsk Region (7%), Moscow (5.6%), Nizhny Novgorod Region (5.6%) and Irkutsk Region (3.7%).

Most motorcycle accidents are recorded in September and July — 25% and 18%, respectively. In 90% of cases, men aged 30-40 become the culprits of road accidents (37% share). The accident rate involving female motorcyclists is decreasing dynamically, from 14% in 2023 to 10% in 2024, analysts said.

According to the dealer company, peak sales of motorcycles occur in March and April — 23% and 26%, respectively. The majority of buyers are traditionally men (75% of sales). The number of women driving motorcycles is increasing every year, and the proportion has grown from 21% to 25% in a year. Motor vehicles are most in demand among Russians aged 25-50 years.

The most popular motorcycle brands are Ducati, KTM and BMW: according to the survey, 34%, 21% and 29% of respondents have already bought or plan to buy them, respectively. The most popular motorcycle classes among Russians are road (36%), sports (29%) models and cruisers (11%).

Earlier, on March 14, Viktor Potapenko, founder of the Motostudy motorcycle driving school, a certified BMW Motorrad instructor, told Izvestia about the most common accidents in Russia involving motorcyclists. According to him, such accidents most often occur when the car turns from the oncoming lane — the driver of the car turns left, but does not notice the approaching motorcyclist.

On February 12, it became known that sales of used motorcycles in Russia set a new record last year. In 2024, 113.6 thousand used motorcycles were sold, which is 10% more than a year earlier. The market has surpassed the mark of 100 thousand units for the second year in a row.
