The Bundestag has adopted amendments to the German constitution by a majority vote, suggesting an increase in the volume of public debt in order to increase defense spending. This was reported on March 18 by radio Norddeutscher Rundfunk.

"The amendments received the necessary two-thirds majority. During the voting, 513 deputies voted "for", 207 — "against", there were no abstentions. A two—thirds majority required at least 489 votes," the article says.

It is noted that in the future, all defense expenditures in the German federal budget exceeding 1% of production will no longer be subject to the rules of the constitution on public debt.

Alice Weidel, chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said on March 13 that Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), was trying to carry out a "financial coup" in order to increase military spending and help Ukraine.
