- The Houthis do not intend to reduce the intensity of attacks on Israeli vessels in the Red Sea

The Ansar Allah movement of the Yemeni Houthis does not plan to reduce the intensity of attacks on Israeli merchant ships in the Red Sea in the face of military pressure from the United States. This was stated on March 18 by Houthi Foreign Minister Jamal Amer in an interview with Reuters.
The diplomat noted that the movement has the right to "defend itself by all possible means" after the United States launched strikes on Yemen. He warned of a high probability of escalation of hostilities in the region.
"There can be no question of any reduction in operations until the end of the [Israeli] blockade of Gaza," Amer added.
He also commented on the words of US President Donald Trump that Iran is responsible for the Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. The minister noted that the movement is indeed connected with Tehran and the so-called "Axis of Resistance" in the Middle East, but it is not at all a puppet of the Iranian government.
"Iran does not interfere in our decisions. <...> It sometimes acts as an intermediary, but it cannot dictate," the Houthi foreign minister stressed.
On March 15, Trump announced that he had ordered the American military to begin military operations against the Houthis in Yemen. Later, on March 16, Al Masirah TV channel said that the US army had carried out an airstrike on a power plant in Dhayan in the province of Saada in northern Yemen.
On the same day, Ansar Allah announced that they would reach a new level of escalation in response. According to the latest data, 53 people were killed as a result of US strikes in Yemen.
On March 18, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saria said that the movement had fired on American warships in the north of the Red Sea three times in two days. In particular, the aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman was attacked.
