Revenue from the sale of passenger cars in the Russian Federation reached the lowest levels in a year

If in January 2025 the turnover from the sale of new passenger cars in Russia amounted to 264 billion rubles, then in February the revenue figure decreased to 231 billion rubles and reached the lowest values in the last 12 months. This was reported on March 18 by Autostat Info.

In February 2024, the turnover in the new passenger car market was recorded at 328 billion rubles. In total, in the first two months of 2025, the turnover from the sale of new passenger cars in the Russian Federation amounted to 495 billion rubles, whereas a year ago, during the same period, it reached 568 billion rubles.

Lada became the leader in revenue in February 2025 (32.7 billion rubles against 36.5 billion in February). The Chinese brand Haval became the first among foreign cars, with revenue of 27.5 billion rubles in February (compared to 33.8 billion rubles in January). The February top 5 brands also include Chery (23.8 billion rubles), Geely (18.4 billion rubles) and Changan (12.5 billion rubles). Their results were also lower than in January.

Among the models, Lada Vesta became the leader in revenue in February, bringing 12.7 billion rubles to retailers, which is slightly less than in January (12.8 billion rubles). Next up are the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, Lada Granta, Haval Jolion and Geely Monjaro.

March 10, Director of Development and Sales of Avto.<url> Business Daniil Shkurygin explained that one of the main reasons for the decline in new car sales in Russia this winter was the high interest rates on loans. In addition, banks have new responsibilities to create reserves in case of possible risks associated with non-fulfillment of loan obligations by borrowers.
