By 2035, Rafale fighter jets with supersonic nuclear warheads will be deployed at the Luxeuil-saint-Sauveur airbase, located on the border with Germany in Luxeuil-en-Ben. This was announced on March 18 by French President Emmanuel Macron.

"By 2035, Luxoy will become the first base to receive the next version of the Rafale and a hypersonic nuclear missile," he said during a speech to the military of the airbase.

According to him, Mirage-2000 fighters were delivered to Ukraine from this base.

The French leader clarified that it is also planned to double the base's contingent by the deadline. Thus, the number of military personnel will reach 2 thousand people. Macron added that France will invest about € 1.5 billion to modernize and adapt the airbase, in particular the operational infrastructure.

He also called the French army "the most efficient, equipped, staffed and trained on the continent."

Rudiger Lukassen, a member of the Bundestag's defense committee from the German right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said on March 6 that Germany needed to have its own nuclear weapons. According to him, Germany needs to be turned into a country "with its own military and command structure" that will be able to provide nuclear deterrence within the framework of European autonomy.
