The negative effects of alcohol on the body can increase significantly if it is combined with certain snacks. Valeria Antyufeeva, a gastroenterologist at the SM Clinic, told Izvestia on March 19 which products should not be combined with it.

First of all, the doctor did not recommend combining alcohol with salty foods, such as French fries. The fact is that it contributes to dehydration of the body, provoking the desire to drink more. Moreover, it can increase hangover syndrome, as it is largely associated with dehydration.

Antyufeeva also warned against combining alcohol with desserts and sweet foods.

"Simple carbohydrates contribute to the fact that alcohol remains unprocessed longer, enters the bloodstream longer, which increases hangover syndrome and increases the load on internal organs. And the oxalic acid contained in some types of chocolate can irritate the gastric mucosa, provoking inflammation," the gastroenterologist warned.

In addition, another undesirable combination is beer and bread. The specialist explained that both products contain yeast, and an excess of yeast can cause disorders in the gastrointestinal tract, bloating, and even increased growth of Candida fungi in the stomach.

No less dangerous, according to the doctor, is the combination of alcohol with caffeine.

"Alcohol has a vasodilating effect, while caffeine (for example, found in coffee or energy drinks), on the contrary, narrows the blood vessels of the brain. Naturally, this is a serious stress for the body, accompanied by pressure surges, palpitations and bouts of nausea," explained the gastroenterologist.

She also warned against drinking wine with legumes such as beans or lentils. The fact is that these products contain a large amount of iron, but its absorption is hampered by the tannin present in wine, which prevents the normal absorption of this mineral.

On March 18, Candidate of Medical Sciences, clinical oncologist at the European Medical Center (EMC) Yulia Vakhabova told Izvestia about the prevention of colorectal cancer— a malignant tumor of the colon. She stressed that prevention of metabolic disorders such as obesity is necessary to reduce risks. Physical activity and complete abstinence from smoking and alcohol consumption are also important.
