The Russian Ministry of Justice has set a goal of transferring 500 convicted foreigners to their homeland in 2025 to carry out their sentences, thus doubling the figure of the previous year. This was announced on March 18 by the head of the department Konstantin Chuychenko.

"Over the past year, the Russian Ministry of Justice has transferred 224 convicts to foreign countries, which is more than 50% higher than in 2023. This year, we have set the bar twice as high and plan to transfer 500 convicts already," he said, speaking at a board meeting of the department.

He also stressed that over the past year, the Ministry of Justice has successfully processed almost 33.5 thousand requests in the field of international legal support.

US President Donald Trump's National security adviser Michael Waltz announced on February 11 the release of American Mark Vogel in Russia. According to him, the American leader and his advisers "agreed on an exchange that will serve as a demonstration of goodwill on the Russian side." Trump, in turn, noted that Russia had treated the United States "very well" by returning Vogel.
