An obstacle to the start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union (EU) is the need for the consent of all member states of the association. This was announced on March 18 at a briefing by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Guillaume Mercier.

"We need all member countries to agree to start negotiations," the EC representative said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Mercier, it is the lack of consensus in the association that prevents the start of negotiations.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on March 10 that the Hungarian government still considers Ukraine's accession to the EU dangerous, but is ready to represent any position of its citizens on this issue in the international arena.

Prior to that, in February, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that there were no conditions for Kiev's accession to the EU today. The prime minister added that such a decision would destroy the country's agriculture and the entire national economy.
