Experts explained the popularity of importing cars through the Far East

It may be more profitable to import cars in Russia through the Far East than through other posts, but later they may require an additional payment for the car. This was announced on March 18. Quto.ru with reference to a market participant who is engaged in the import of new and used Chinese equipment.

The fact is that most posts in determining the customs value of a car, from which the amount of duty is then calculated, use only popular websites from China, while the Far East is ready to accept other documents. For example, the cost of purchasing a car in invoices may be lower than the average market price if the buyer received a good discount from the seller, the source explained.

However, the control authorities, then checking the import of the car, may consider the price to be undervalued and impose additional duties. An example is the case of the owner of a crossover imported from South Korea, who failed to prove to customs officials that the stated purchase price was real and not artificially low.

On April 1 last year, a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation entered into force, which provides for the introduction of new rules for calculating the amount of the recycling fee for vehicles imported into the Russian Federation. Customs authorities will be able to charge additional unpaid duties and other fees for such vehicles as part of the recycling process.

The day before, it was reported that the volume of imports of foreign cars into Russia through checkpoints in Primorye in early 2025 increased 3.5 times compared to the same period last year.
