- The Federation Council called the words of the Rada deputy about the return of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant philosophical arguments.

Statements by Ukrainian politicians about Kiev's intentions to regain control of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) are philosophical and do not affect practical decisions. This was announced on March 18 by Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
As The New York Times reported yesterday, the head of the Verkhovna Rada subcommittee on energy security, Victoria Hryb, said that Ukraine wants to return the nuclear power plant. In addition, the publication suggested that the Russian Federation could exchange the energy facility "for something else."
"Well, the philosophical exercises of our Ukrainian parliamentarians, they are, of course, interesting, but, in my opinion, they will not get a big echo from people who make practical decisions. This is nothing more than reasoning by the fireplace or there, I do not know, in some other conditions," Karasin commented on her words.
The senator stressed that the process of resolving the issue is both complex and simple — it depends on the agreements of the people who are responsible for making decisions, and not those who reason.
"Therefore, we will wait for progress in solving practical issues," the source concluded.
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that Ukraine fears that US President Donald Trump will force peace on Russia's terms. According to media reports, the American president may compromise with Moscow without Kiev's prior consent, which will put Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in a "dangerous position."
Also on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump in the afternoon. According to him, there are many issues related to the further normalization of bilateral relations and the settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
On March 17, Trump announced that negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine were entering a "critical stage." At the same time, he pointed out that representatives of the Ukrainian side are also interested in establishing peace.
