The expert spoke about the features of cloud data storage

In today's world, the issue of data storage security is becoming particularly important. People have the opportunity to store files and documents online, not just on their computer or phone. Maxim Oreshkin, technical director of the mobile application development company House Tech, told Izvestia on March 19 about how to make sure that the data is safe.
"Cloud data storage is a way to store information on servers accessible via the Internet. Instead of storing photos, videos, and documents on a computer or USB stick, you can upload them to a special cloud. Popular cloud services include Google Drive, Dropbox, Yandex.Disk and others," he noted.
According to him, it is convenient because of accessibility: the user can access his data from any device with the Internet. You don't have to worry about running out of memory on your device. Among the advantages is sharing: you can share files with friends, colleagues, or family members.
Oreshkin gave some tips on secure cloud data storage.
"The first step to security is to choose a responsible cloud service. Research which companies offer reliable services. If the service has a good reputation and positive reviews, this is already a good sign," he stressed.
At the same time, he reminded that it is necessary to create complex passwords that are difficult to guess. It is worth using a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. You should not set the same password on different services. This will help to avoid a situation where an attacker will gain access to data on different platforms, the expert explained.
It is also better to use two-factor authentication.
"What is two-factor authentication? This is an additional way to protect yourself. When you enter your password, you may receive a special code on your phone or email. This code must be entered to verify your identity. This will become a serious barrier for those who want to gain unauthorized access to your account," Oreshkin explained.
According to him, do not forget about data encryption — it is a way to protect files from prying eyes. Some cloud services automatically encrypt data, but you can use additional programs to encrypt information before uploading it to the cloud. This is especially important if there is confidential information.
In addition, even the most reliable services may encounter technical failures, so it's worth making backups of important data and saving them to external media or another cloud service.
"Be careful about the links and attachments that come to your mail. Attackers can send messages asking you to enter your account information. Never click on suspicious links or open attachments from unknown senders," the expert added.
Earlier, on February 21, Nikita Chugunov, head of the bank's digital business department and senior vice president of VTB, told Izvestia that among the unreliable passwords are variants with a sequence of consecutive digits (9876543210 or the user's personal number), with simple words (password), personal data (date of birth or wedding, phone number). Also among the unsuccessful variations is a "transparent" hint in the password prompt ("wife's name and last year" or "street name and apartment number").
