Car owners are not advised to replace winter tires on vehicles with summer tires in Moscow. This was announced on March 18 in the Telegram channel by the metropolitan Department of Transport with reference to the Traffic Management Center (TSODD).

"We strongly recommend that drivers switch from winter tires to summer tires only when the average daily temperature is above +5...+6 degrees," the agency quotes Maxim Liksutov, head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of the city.

According to him, this will protect drivers and passengers on the road, and help avoid accidents.

The data center also clarified how winter tires differ from summer tires. Summer tires turn brown during frosts, they lose grip on the road. As the air temperature rises, the rubber softens. Winter weather remains mild in the cold. However, such rubber loses its grip and wears out at temperatures above +15 degrees.

Earlier, on March 16, Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, announced the possible return of frost to Moscow in late March or early April. He also warned that in this regard, motorists should not change tires on cars from winter to summer.
