Fraudsters have started using a new scheme to deceive students by posing as employees of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. R-Vision employees told TASS about this on March 18.

The attackers offer students to verify their account on the Gosuslugi portal in order to receive a scholarship and update data on the university's website.

The scammers contact the victim via social media, drop them an inactive link and, knowing about its nature, offer help with authorization, asking for a password and claiming that they already have a login.

"As a result, the victim may receive an official SMS from the bank stating that a loan has been opened in her name," the experts said.

Experts also recalled the scheme of deceiving students on behalf of the dean's offices, which is now experiencing a surge in use.

Earlier, on March 14, it was reported that Russia could introduce automatic temporary blocking of Russian accounts on "Public Services" while changing at least two identification parameters, for example, phone number and password. Such an initiative, among others, was contained in the package of proposals of the Popular Front for the meeting with the president.
