The landfill burning near Novorossiysk will be reconstructed for 1.5 billion rubles

A landfill in the Shchelba Mountain tract is being reconstructed near Novorossiysk. It has been burning since March 13. This was stated by the head of the Russian Environmental Operator Denis Butsaev. According to him, thanks to this, it will be possible to reduce the share of solid waste disposal in the Novorossiysk zone to less than 50%.

Butsaev noted that waste from Novorossiysk and Gelendzhik is being transported to the landfill. Its capacity is 160 thousand tons per year. It is planned to invest 1.5 billion rubles in the reconstruction project. The REO does not exclude the possibility of financing the work.

Butsaev, quoted by KrasnodarMedia news agency, promised that the fire at the landfill would be eliminated in the coming days. The main extinguishing phase was completed, and the spread of the fire was stopped.

140 people and 40 pieces of equipment are fighting the fire. To eliminate the fire, 23 thousand cubic meters of soil were poured out.

The agency, citing the Control and Audit Department of the Novorossiysk city Administration, clarifies that due to the change in wind direction, a strong burning smell is felt in almost all areas of the city.

Similar fires at the landfill were recorded in July and August 2024. Then it took up to eight days to eliminate the fire.
