- The court sentenced two Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters to 15 and 16 years for the terrorist attack in the Kursk region.

The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Serhiy Popovich to 16 years in prison and Pavel Stasyuk to 15 years in prison for the terrorist attack in the Kursk region. This was announced on March 18 on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.
According to law enforcement agencies, on August 12, 2024, Popovich and Stasyuk illegally crossed the border of the Russian Federation. In order to block and keep the settlement under armed control, the driver of the 154th separate mechanized brigade and the grenade launcher operator of the 82nd separate airborne assault brigade equipped observation and firing positions on its outskirts, and installed a unified reconnaissance, fire and communications system between them.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces militants also mined road routes and areas, opened fire on Russian servicemen and civilians, forbade them to move, and prevented evacuation.
"They were found guilty under clauses "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Commission by a group of persons by prior agreement of a terrorist act that entailed grave consequences")," the report says.
The court sentenced Popovich to 16 years in prison, Stasyuk to 15. They will serve the first 3 years in prison, and the rest of their sentences in a high—security penal colony.
Earlier, on March 14, a court sentenced prisoners of the Far Eastern Federal University Andrei Anisimov and Dmitry Labunsky to 16 years in prison for a terrorist attack in the Kursk region. According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, on August 10, 2024, during the fighting, they were detained by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
