Banking applications will add functionality for victims of fraud


Mobile applications of large banks will be supplemented with functionality for persons affected by fraudulent activities. This was announced on March 18 by the Central Bank of Russia.
"Starting from October 1, 2025, large banks, including those in the payment services market, will be required to add functionality to their mobile applications that will allow customers to promptly report fraudulent transfers," a publication on the regulator's website says.
It is noted that the victims will be able to receive an electronic certificate of fraudulent transaction from the bank in order to contact the police later. According to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the new requirements are provided for in the Bank of Russia's application and will simplify the procedure for filing an application for fraud.
Customers will have the opportunity to respond to the credit institution regarding the transaction under the influence of fraudsters. In addition, starting in October, banking organizations will begin accepting applications from Russians who transferred cash to fraudsters' accounts using digital cards through an ATM.
On March 5, the head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Elvira Nabiullina, announced that the country's major banks were "repelling" more than 99% of fraudulent attacks on Russians. She clarified that the regulator's task is to set the bar for requirements for anti-fraud systems of banks and provide assistance to banking organizations that are not yet able to meet this bar.
