Illegal bio-waste landfills found near Khabarovsk
The Khabarovsk interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office began an inspection after the discovery of illegal landfills of biological waste in the Khabarovsk region. The prosecutor's office found one of them during a joint field event with the OED "Protection of Nature" in Michurinsky rural settlement.
The supervisory authority should assess the completeness of the exercise of powers by state control bodies and local governments. In addition, the prosecutor's office will determine who owns the land plots where the waste was found, IA AmurMedia clarifies.
Earlier, on March 12, it was reported that Russia proposed banning the export of bio-waste to landfills near airports. The initiative is aimed at strengthening security around air harbors. Organic matter accounts for up to 50% of the garbage volume and attracts flocks of birds. In total, 164 landfills in airport-sensitive areas were counted in 60 regions of Russia, 40% of them are considered dangerous.
