- A woman who killed her son and hid her body in a suitcase was sentenced to 18 years in a penal colony.

A resident of Perm, who killed her nine-year-old son, put the body in a suitcase and left it by the trash cans, was sentenced to 18 years in a penal colony. This was announced on March 18 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
The State prosecution requested 19 years in prison, taking into account mitigating circumstances such as the woman's cooperation with the investigation and her sincere admission of guilt.
In turn, the defense did not agree with the punishment imposed and asked the court to take into account the difficult life situation of the accused. The lawyer noted that the total amount of the woman's debts is about 50 million rubles.
In July last year, a suitcase with a child's corpse was found in the Leninsky district of Perm. The deceased showed signs of violent death and stab wounds to the body, as well as symptoms of asphyxia. The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder of a minor or other person who is obviously helpless for the perpetrator"). Later, the investigation established that the suspect in the murder was Irina Shatova, a 34-year-old resident of Perm, and the injured nine-year-old child was her son. During the interrogation, the woman told investigators that she killed her son because of debts. She planned to commit suicide, but did not want the child to be left alone.
