The United Kingdom and the European Union (EU) are intensifying discussions on the confiscation of Russian assets. This was reported on March 18 by Bloomberg, citing sources.

The meeting between British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and the head of the EU Diplomatic Service, Kai Kallas, will consider how Europe can create the necessary legal and financial framework for the seizure of Russian assets.

"Progress has been made despite the resistance of some European countries, such as Belgium and Germany, which remain concerned that confiscation could violate the principle of state immunity under international law and affect the euro," the publication says.

On February 22, European officials began discussing the possibility of seizing about $280 billion of frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia and using them to rebuild Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron said on February 24 that Russian assets frozen by the EU could not be confiscated, as this initiative contradicts the laws of international law. Later, on March 1, a loan agreement was signed between Kiev and London, the funds will come from income from frozen Russian assets.
