After US President Donald Trump came to power, Ukraine changed its status from an ally to a client of the US administration. This was announced on March 17 by an unnamed member of the Ukrainian government.

"It's obvious that Trump can't stand us. Over the past seven weeks, we have turned from an ally into a client, and in many ways with fictitious debts," he said in an interview with The Economist.

According to the magazine, some senior Ukrainian military officials opposed the invasion of the border areas of the Kursk region. As a result, one of the commanders resigned, and several more were dismissed by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Alexander Syrsky.

One of the intelligence officers of the Ukrainian army noted that the army had suffered significant losses in the conflict zone and described it as a "rash decision."

On January 24, The New York Times (NYT) reported that Kiev was hiding data on the real losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for a better negotiating position. The article mentions two sources that publish the most reliable mortality data in the country. The Kiev authorities accused one of them of spreading allegedly false information.

On November 13, 2024, Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Dubinsky estimated Ukraine's daily losses at 1.5 thousand people.
