The famous Honduran singer Aurelio Martinez died on Tuesday during a plane crash that occurred on Roatan. This was reported on March 18 by the newspaper El Tiempo.

"The accident occurred around 18:00 (03:00 Moscow time. — Ed.), when the plane heading for Lanhsa flight 018 made a sharp turn on takeoff. As a result, he flew off the runway and fell into the sea," the newspaper reports.

After the accident, the singer was admitted to a medical facility. Martinez was unable to survive due to the severity of his injuries.

There were 17 people on board the plane, including foreign nationals and two minors.

As reported by the Honduran police on their page on the social network X (ex. Twitter), the death toll rose to 12. Five managed to survive. At the moment, the search for victims is continuing. It was clarified that there were 15 passengers and two crew members on board the crashed aircraft.

Martinez was born on September 25, 1969 in Honduras. He was engaged in the promotion of Garifuna culture at the national and international levels. He was considered a cultural ambassador of the people. One of the singer's most memorable musical compositions is Pompis con Pompis.
