- The State Duma deputy suggested the lifting of sanctions after the US recognition of Crimea as Russian

Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma deputy from the Republic of Crimea and a member of the security Committee, said on March 17 that the US recognition of Crimea as Russian may imply the lifting of sanctions.
"With regard to the recognition of Crimea, on the part of America, this decision may become a gesture of goodwill, involving the further lifting of sanctions, which is one of the conditions for signing a peace agreement, forcing Ukraine to observe neutrality and abandon claims to Russian territories," he told TASS.
According to Sheremet, due to the mutual desire of Russia and the United States for an early peaceful end to hostilities and their desire to improve relations between the two states, a resolution of the conflict becomes possible in a short time.
However, the MP noted that he did not see a quick solution to the Ukrainian conflict.
On the same day, it became known about the intention of the United States to recognize Crimea as the territory of the Russian Federation as part of the settlement. It is reported that this is one of the many options that the American side is considering in an attempt to stop the fighting.
