Paraguay expresses interest in BRICS

Paraguay is showing great interest in BRICS, but is not yet ready to fully join the association. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to Latin America Alexey Pisarev in an interview with Izvestia.

The agreement is under consideration by Parliament, the Russian Embassy confirmed.

"Paraguay has a great interest in BRICS, as do many Latin American countries. This is all the more relevant in the year of the Brazilian presidency of the association. According to the position of the Paraguayan Government, expressed by Foreign Minister Ruben Ramirez, if invited, Paraguay would be interested in participating in the events organized by the Brazilian Presidency. At the same time, the issue of Paraguay obtaining the status of a BRICS partner, not to mention full membership, has not yet been raised," the diplomat notes.

Brazil holds the BRICS presidency in 2025. A meeting of the foreign ministers is scheduled for the end of April, and the summit of the leaders of the member states will be held on July 6-7.
