US President Donald Trump should refrain from making "disrespectful comments" about Canada before the countries can begin joint negotiations. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters in London on March 17.

"We criticized these comments. They are disrespectful, useless, and they will have to be stopped before we can sit down and talk about our broader partnership with the United States," the Reuters news agency quoted him as saying.

It is reported that the statement was the harshest statement against Trump since the beginning of Carney's political career. The prime minister himself, who took the oath of office on March 14, has not yet held meetings with the American leader. Trump himself has also not yet spoken out about the appointment of a new Canadian prime minister.

Earlier, on March 14, Canada discussed with the EU retaliatory measures to increase US duties. It is reported that the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump will have a negative impact on Americans. The increase in duties will contribute to higher costs and inflation.
