The special procedure for passing the GIA this year may affect three regions.


State Duma deputies suggested that 9th grade graduates who decide to continue their studies on the basis of secondary vocational education (SPE) should take the exam in only two subjects instead of four - Russian and mathematics, the new order may apply to Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Lipetsk region. This was announced on March 17 on the website of the State Duma.
At the same time, the initiative does not cancel the mandatory completion of four disciplines at the final assessment following the completion of the 9th grade for those students who plan to continue their studies at the school. Admission to the 10th grade will be based on successfully passed exams in two compulsory subjects and two elective subjects.
Initially, it was assumed that the bill would be applied in five regions, by the second reading the list was expanded to 12, including Moscow. Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said that the government has determined the criteria for the regions' readiness to participate in the pilot project.
"Let's return to the procedure of the second reading, we will adjust the list of regions with amendments, taking into account their readiness. There will be three entities that meet the criteria set by the government. <...> Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Lipetsk region will be representative," he concluded.
The Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor) and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation approved the schedule of the unified State exam (Unified State Exam and OGE) for 2025 in December last year.
