American entrepreneur, founder of SpaceX and head of the US Department of Public Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, said that people can set foot on Mars in 5-7 years. He published the corresponding post on March 17 on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"This will happen either during the second or during the third Earth–Mars launch window (the time period suitable for launching a space rocket. — Ed.), that is, in about 5-7 years," Musk replied to the publication of one of the netizens who wrote that humans would inhabit Mars.

The entrepreneur pointed out that the key issue of colonization is whether the level of technological development of mankind will be sufficient for the independent development of the planet if ships stop arriving from Earth.

"Otherwise, Mars will die out. We must do everything possible to strengthen civilization so that this window of opportunity remains open as long as possible," Musk concluded.

Earlier, on March 15, the founder of SpaceX stated that he wants to give anyone the opportunity to go to Mars. At the same time, Musk announced that a spacecraft with a humanoid robot, Optimus, would go to Mars at the end of 2026.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), in turn, suggested that the American entrepreneur organize a joint flight of Russia and the United States to Mars in 2029.
