The most demanded types of tourism are named

The most popular type of tourism, according to industry experts, has become cultural and educational with national tourist routes (84%). This is stated in the results of a study by the Tutu travel service "Tourism Development in the regions: trends and results of 2024," which was reviewed by Izvestia on March 18. Experts interviewed various representatives of the industry.
Also among the popular formats are event tourism (77%), outdoor recreation — campsites, glamping (44%), outdoor activities — hiking, rafting (40%), medical and wellness (40%) and automobile tourism (37%), ecotourism (35%), business and congress tourism (30%), gastronomy (30%), industrial (28%) and pilgrimage, religious tourism (16%), skiing (14%), cruises and yachting (12%).
At the same time, 93% of experts on domestic tourism noted an increase in tourist flow from 11 to 20% to their regions in 2024.
Analysts explained that this was facilitated by active promotion at the regional and federal levels, the creation and posting of content about places and events in the region on social networks, a busy calendar of events and an increase in the number of business events. Government support measures to subsidize tourism infrastructure, new business opportunities within the framework of the national project "Tourism and the Hospitality Industry" and changes in consumer behavior of tourists were also among the growth drivers.
The main drivers of tourism development in the regions include the personal involvement of the heads of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation or federal authorities in the development of this sphere, natural and climatic features, attractions, the development of event marketing, the introduction of new infrastructure and tourist facilities.
Among the main barriers to the development of tourism are the lack of modern high-quality infrastructure, the obsolescence of the room stock and the lack of large-volume hotels in the mid-price segment, complex logistics, low transport accessibility and remoteness of tourist facilities, pronounced seasonality of services and the low level of development of tourist products for travel groups.
The experts surveyed predict an increase in tourist traffic to the regions from 8 to 17% in 2025. The positive forecast is attributed to the good results of early booking campaigns for the summer and winter tourist seasons, with the rapid development of autotourism and active tourism.
"The market is going through a stage of active industry diversification. Domestic tourism continues to grow rapidly and remains the most stable segment. We see a tendency to expand the geography of travel and redistribute tourist flows between regions. About 60% of tourists are independent tourists who book hotels directly or through travel aggregators," said Igor Sivets, member of the Board of Directors of the Tutu travel service, member of the Board of the Association of Travel Aggregators (ATAG).
He added that the number of car tourists is growing, and the trend will intensify in the next few years. There is also a growing trend towards ecotourism, with more and more tourists choosing Altai, Kamchatka, Murmansk, and the North Caucasus.
Earlier, on February 23, experts from the OneTwoTrip travel planning service told Izvestia about popular spring destinations. According to their information, Russians are more likely to choose Sochi, Lake Ladoga and Dagestan for recreation. Experts singled out Egypt, Japan and Turkey among the foreign destinations.
