Global central banks continue to actively build up gold reserves, and this trend is likely to continue until the end of 2025. Ruslan Spinka, Director of Sales and Customer Service at Fontvielle IC, told Izvestia on March 17.

"The decision to freeze the reserves of the Bank of Russia in 2022 has shown how closely political and economic decisions can be intertwined. This has become a signal for other States that seek greater independence in their decisions. Gold, being a geopolitically neutral asset, allows them to avoid the influence of other countries," he explained.

Among the key reasons for the build-up of gold reserves, the expert named inflation, the risks associated with record US government debt, and tariff wars.

According to the expert, in 2019, only 8% of respondents expected an increase in gold reserves, in 2020 this figure rose to 20%, and in 2024 — to 29%. This indicates a long-term trend.

"Gold is a classic defensive asset that helps central banks diversify portfolios and maintain purchasing power in an unstable environment," Spinka summed up.

Earlier, on January 18, Evgeny Shatov told Izvestia about current investment instruments. According to him, gold and silver retain their role as protective assets in the face of geopolitical instability and inflationary pressures. These instruments can become an important part of a diversified portfolio.
