On March 17, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin and Tajik Defense Minister Lieutenant General Emomali Sobirzoda agreed on plans to develop military and military-technical cooperation.

"The state of affairs was discussed and plans for the development of military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan in the near future were agreed upon," the Russian ministry said in a statement.

A meeting of representatives of the two countries' defense ministries took place in Moscow earlier that day.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during talks with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon on March 17, announced plans to sign joint documents between the countries, including in the field of security within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Rahmon stressed that security issues are of paramount importance in bilateral cooperation.
