The conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, will cover a wide range of issues, not just the problems of the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated by State Duma Deputy Dmitry Novikov on Monday, March 17.
"Recently, there has been a desire between Russia and the United States to provide opportunities for dialogue on a wide range of issues. These include, in particular, the restoration of normal diplomatic relations, ensuring the proper functioning of diplomatic services," the deputy said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to the parliamentarian, the heads of state can also discuss international security issues, which are also relevant for both sides today.
"There are such pressing issues as the Ukrainian crisis. As well as common problems of international security, in solving which the interaction of our countries plays an important role," he said.
On March 17, Trump announced that he was going to have a conversation with Putin. According to him, there are currently "good chances" to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that the conversation between Putin and Trump is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18. He noted that the details of the upcoming conversation will not be disclosed, RT reports.
The American leader's special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff, said on March 16 that great progress had been made in discussing the Ukrainian conflict at a meeting with Putin in Moscow. He noted that the upcoming telephone conversation between the Russian leader and the US president is also expected to be "positive and constructive."
