The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has proposed to include boxing in the program of the 2028 Summer Olympic Games. This was announced on March 17 by IOC President Thomas Bach at a press conference following a meeting of the executive committee.

"Today's executive committee was not eventful, [there was] only one real decision. And it was about including boxing in the Olympic Games program in Los Angeles in 2028," he said at the event, which was broadcast on the IOC YouTube channel.

According to Bach, a positive decision on the status of boxing became possible after the temporary recognition of the World Boxing organization as a representative federation of this sport within the Olympic movement.

"The recommendation will be sent to the [IOC] session, and I am absolutely sure that the session will approve it," the functionary added.

Earlier, on March 7, the head of the IOC called on the world sports federations to consider the admission of Russians to the Olympic qualification tournaments. He noted that the mission of the Olympic Games is to unite the countries of the world.
