In the Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are trying to hold three settlements. This was announced on March 17 by the commander of the Akhmat special forces, deputy head of the main military-political directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov.

"They are trying to hold only three settlements by any means and by any means, which, in principle, they are also failing," he said on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

Alaudinov also added that the Ukrainian army will suffer significant losses, while the Russian Armed Forces continue their offensive and advance daily.

The Wall Street Journal reported on February 8 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are acutely aware of the shortage of ammunition: 10 Russian shells account for one of them. After an unsuccessful counteroffensive attempt by the Ukrainian army last year, its reserves of manpower and equipment are severely depleted, and this is reflected in the course of the fighting.
