On March 17, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) proposed limiting margins on socially significant products in all major Russian retail chains.

"The Service appealed to the networks that had not previously assumed these obligations with a proposal to reconsider the possibility of joining the initiative. In addition, the FAS of Russia invited the Association of Retail Trade Companies (ACORT) and the Association of Online Commerce Companies (AKIT) to work with retail chains that are not affiliated with the initiative on the issue of assuming these voluntary obligations," the agency said in a press release.

It is indicated that in case of participation in the program, the network will have to send information to the Federal Antimonopoly Service about the items for which restrictions on the size of the margin will be imposed.

The FAS added that they appreciate the socially responsible policy of retailers and believe that participation in the initiative will only increase the competitiveness of retail chains.

Earlier, on March 13, the agency announced plans to analyze margins for 29 categories of food products at 36 major trading platforms, as well as in two online stores. The Federal Antimonopoly Service will assess prices for socially important essential products, as well as tomatoes, cucumbers, pasta and cheeses of various types.
