The Serbian authorities managed to maintain stability and prevent the escalation and descent of the country into an acute crisis confrontation. This was announced on March 17 by the Russian Ambassador to Belgrade, Alexander Botan-Kharchenko.

He noted that currently the situation in the country is calm. According to him, the Serbian authorities have been keeping the situation under control since March 15, and there have been no outbreaks or manifestations of protests, as well as disobedience.

"Probably, this can be attributed to the first conclusion that the authorities have maintained stability, the authorities have remained calm, the authorities, the president, first of all, the relevant services, the government have prevented the crossing of the line beyond which escalation begins, beyond which bloodshed and the country's descent into such an acute civil crisis confrontation is possible," he said on air. the TV channel "Russia 24".

The demonstrations began in Belgrade in the early morning of March 15. The protest action of students involves the blocking of key points of the Serbian capital. A convoy of 100 tractors joined the protesters, among others. According to the latest information from President Aleksandar Vucic, 56 people were injured during Saturday's protests.

The reason for the start of anti-government protests by students and the opposition since November 2024 was the death of 15 people as a result of the collapse of the canopy of the railway station in Novi Sad. After the tragedy, Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic resigned.
